You Must Ask for Eternal Life... Matthew 21:22 - And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. John 16:24 - Here to have you asked nothing in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your joy…Continue
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
By this definition, I fear that many people claiming to be believers are spiritual corpses. For our faith to be genuine, James says it must express itself in good deeds. Jesus said something similar in his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:21). Faith not only moves mountains but must also move believers to act in ways that honor God and bless others. Faith also becomes a true believer's way of demonstrating thankfulness to God for his amazing grace.
Holy and Faithful Father, please forgive me for the times I've been lazy in my spiritual walk when my faith didn't prompt me to do good deeds. Help me see the many opportunities for service you give to me each day and empower me to act on those opportunities in ways that bless others and honor you. In Jesus' holy name, I pray. Amen. All scripture quotations, unless otherwise indicated, are taken from the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION. © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by International Bible Society. Jesus would not entrust himself to them [the crowd], for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
Jesus knows people. He especially knew the crowd and how fickle and selfish people often can be. Jesus did not minister to people, heal the broken, or teach the truth to those who would listen to garner public approval or attention. He wanted our selfish fickleness transformed into character, commitment, and compassion. So, if we're going to know how to better live as a person, the place to start is Jesus. If we want to know how to be compassionate, we observe Jesus as he ministers to the broken people around him. If we desire to live passionately for God, we must focus on Jesus and his commitment to the Father. We need to follow his example and obey his teachings. This lifestyle — or Christyle, as I call it — is not easy. However, it is authentic and invites us to participate in a transformational journey with Jesus as the Holy Spirit shapes us to become evermore like him (2 Corinthians 3:18). As we learn that we can trust Jesus because he knows us, we discover a life of greater depth and richer meaning. Jesus invites us to follow him and discover this life, realizing that Jesus alone knows what is inside us and what we most need to become like him and find life in all of its fullness and wonder (John 10:10).
Thank you, Father, for sending your Son to show me how to live and to teach me your truth. In the name of your precious Son and my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen. All scripture quotations, unless otherwise indicated, are taken from the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION. © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by International Bible Society. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
We are different! God makes us male and female so we can be complements of each other. Each of us, male or female, is made in God's image. God intends that a husband and wife find their primary intimate human relationship with the other. They still honor their parents, but their home is with each other. Their two lives become one. They know each other intimately and share that intimacy across many facets of their lives. In this context of lifetime security and commitment, they share in the intimate knowledge of each other sexually — becoming "one flesh" and fully knowing each other deeply. This relationship is to be enjoyed (Proverbs 5), protected (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8), and celebrated (Song of Solomon) for life (Matthew 19:6).
Holy and Almighty Father, please bless me with the strength to live with integrity, faithfulness, and purity in today's sexually charged world. Please use your Spirit and your Word to instruct, correct, and convict me as I seek to discover your truth for my relationships and celebrate your will for my sexuality only with the person you have called me to honor with my life in marriage. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. All scripture quotations, unless otherwise indicated, are taken from the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION. © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by International Bible Society.
